Lovin' Those Thanksgiving Sales
This week has been AMAZING for sales. I found turkeys for $.37/lb, pork for $.99/lb, 5lb bags of taters for $.68/bag....it has been awesome! The problem with all these sales is that they usually have limits on them. Like the store selling the turkeys clearly stated "2 per customer". What was I to do?! I took my two turkeys out to the car, then headed back in for more.
And don't you judge, cuz I wasn't the only one doing it. We actually were all kinda laughing about it as we passed each other going in and out of the store.
The best part was walking out of the local grocery store and looking at my reciept. Right there, in black and white, it showed that I had spent $20.64 and SAVED over $21! I had to call my mom at that point and gloat a little.
Our cupboards had been getting a little bare here at Barefoot Manor, so since today was payday I spent every spare penny I had on filling up the freezer and cupboards. Now I am hoping to get back to my coupon clipping, stockpiling ways. It is a lot of fun to play the shopping game and win! And that is the way I have come to look at it. Things are getting so expensive, and my wage is nowhere near keeping up. So I have made it a game to get the most food I can for the lowest price.
I suppose I am tapping into the old "hunter-gatherer" instincts.
Anyway, I am feeling pretty darn good about myself and my full freezer, and I thought I would share....

Frugal Food: Week 2

Total Spent: $45.98
Total Saved: $39.03
Not too bad, huh? I shorted myself out of $3 savings by forgetting to use 2 BOGO coupons that I had (don't know what I was thinking), but still, $39 worth of savings on foods we will eat is pretty durn good.
I think the best part was the turkey breast for $.68/lb. I do love me some turkey. Oh, and that milk? FREE!
My plan is to allow $50/wk for food, paper products, personal care items, and baby stuff (diapers and wipes). I am pretty sure that is a good number. Some folks say it is way too low, and others don't spend that much for a family of 4, so as long as I am in the middle I will call it good. Any $$ I don't use will be put into an envelope to use when there are exceptionally good sales that I wanna stock up on or weeks when I am short on cash.
Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Frugal Food: Week 1

This is a pic of just SOME of the grocery shopping I did this week on my new "stock up and save big/coupon clipping" freakiness. Mr. Barefoot got a little freaked out by how much I was buying, but the fact that I am in the stocking up phase and the deals I got soothed his conscience a bit.
I don't have a good price comparison between what I paid and what I saved, so I will just give you the highlights here.
41lbs pork (ribs, chops, roast) @ $1/lb = $41 I figure that was about a $75-$80 value
5, 3lb bags boneless skinless chick boobs @ $5 ea. = $25 That is a $40 value
14 boxes Rice a Roni @ $.88 ea. = $12.30 Value: approx.$21
9, 64oz bottles juice @ $1 ea. = $9 Value: approx $20
24pk toilet tissue = $5 Value: $7?
5 SoBe Life Water @ $1 ea. = $5 Value: $7.50
4, 8oz pkg cheese (some shredded, some block) @ $1 ea. = $4 Value: $11.96
2 loaves bread @ $1 ea. = $2 Value: $6.38
And on and on it went. Like I said, I ended up spending more than I had planned on, but between stocking up on the deals and getting items that we really NEEDED that weren't on sale yet I think I spent a fairly reasonable amount.
I DID splurge on the curtains, as you can see, but I think I would have just puked if we had to put up the nasty purple ones the previous owner left in the living room again. I can further justify it by stating that Big Sprout needs curtains in her room, and has had her heart set on the purple ones.
Anyway. I am proud....now I just gotta make bills!
