Heartbroken

This year, Halloween falls on a Wednesday. Big Sprout's church group meets on Wednesdays. Do you see where this is going?

So the church is doing a hayride and supper for the kids Halloween evening, and Big Sprout has decided that she would like to do that instead of going trick-or-treating. This is fine for me, because after the costume fiasco (she finally decided on a costume I could not find ANYWHERE) I am just as glad that she wants to do something that does not require a costume.

DH is miserable about it. He has taken her trick or treating every year since she was one year old, and it has become something he really looks forward to. Now this year she would rather do something else. Poor guy.

Sorry, but it's just the beginning of her finding her own way. It's hard though. I remember when my son told me that he didn't want me to chaperone a field trip because he'd have more fun if I didn't go.

I know, and he knows. It is still hard, though. Big Sprout and DH went through some really hard times when he and I first got married. She was used to having mommy all to herself, and really didn't like to share. Because of this, he really treasures each thing that they do together. He had to fight so hard for it.

Awwww, I hope your hubby & Big Sprout can find a new way to spend time together.

Kinda in the same boat. DD isn't sure she wants to trick-or-treat this year or not. The DH, however, is hoping she doesn't. I am hoping she DOES, because that gives me time (in between handing out candy myself) to do a little bit of ritual. *grin*
