And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair. ~ Kahlil Gibran

You Eediots!!!!

Alright, so normally I don't get into this. I don't really talk about it, even, because it seems so simple to me. The human race has screwed up. We have raped the Earth repeatedly and with no significant signs of remorse for generations, and now there will be hell to pay.

Like I said, simple.

What isn't simple to me is how people can ignore the situation. Even my beloved Bro, who is an amazing person for the most part, does not believe that a) Global Warming exists, b) Peak Oil exists, c) there is anything wrong with our economic system, d) there is anything wrong with our society, e) any of it is our fault, f) there is any need for change.

What confuses me the most is how people can be so stubborn about it. They sit and argue and deny when even now we are seeing indisputable evidence that things are changing. And while the argument regarding the Earth's history of climate change does have some merit, there has NEVER been a period of such drastic change so quickly.

Well, I am not here to argue about it. I feel like I am stuck in the story of the grasshopper and the ants. You know the one. The grasshopper refuses to believe that winter will come and plays all summer long, making fun of the industrious ants doing what they can to prepare for the snow. When winter comes...well I'm sure you can figure out the end of this little story. I just hope this little ant and her family can learn enough and accomplish enough to survive the winter.

It is weird how so many people are in denial, or at least are unwilling to do anything. I guess when you've never known anything but prosperity, it's hard to consider anything else.

The Oil Drum had a long, but (I thought) very interesting piece about this phenomenon just the other day.

Wow! What a piece! I didn't read the whole thing (it is long), but I bookmarked it to go back when I have more time. Thanks for the link!
