My Folks Have Chickens?!

The last few weeks there have been some chickens hanging out at my folks' place. Weird, huh? I mean, my folks live in town, so it isn't like the neighbor's chickens hopped a fence and decided to hang out for a while.

It's hilarious.

Today, I brought the Sprouts over to visit my Dad. Big Sprout saw one of the chickens and chased it back into the woods, followed by shouts from me that she should catch it so we could have a chicken dinner. Heh.

Little Sprout followed, and when she saw the chicken started yelling "Ducky! Quack, quack! Ducky!" My sides still hurt from laughing. There was no convincing her that it wasn't a duck, either.

It reminded me of the time when I was about Big Sprout's age and we ended up with a cow in the back yard. There is a meat processing place down the street from my folks ~ a fairly small operation ~ and local folks will bring in their cows, hogs, deer and such to be butchered and chopped up. One day, a cow took one look at that place and made a run for it. Imagine my Dad's surprise when we came in to tell him that there was livestock in his yard!

Anyway, I figure that's where the chickens came from, too. I kinda hope one of the cats in the area gets them, though. I hate to think of them freezing or starving this winter.

Or maybe my Dad will just build a coop and let them move in....you never know!

*grin* What're the odds your dad builds that chicken coop and keeps the darned things?

I think Mom will have something to say about that....*giggle* Of course, Dad has the habit of doing things when Mom isn't looking, so who knows?
