And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair. ~ Kahlil Gibran

Fall Rains

I have always liked the rain.

Soft, gentle rains are soothing. They create an atmosphere for dreaming romantic watercolor dreams. I love to wander in a light rain, smelling wet earth and listening to water dripping on the leaves.

Great thunderstorms are invigorating. I love to watch thunderstorms roll in all wild and free. It makes me feel alive to see the lightning and feel the winds whip my hair around before the first drops fall.

I never sleep better than when it is raining. Even violent storms soothe me to a deep and dreamless sleep. What a luxury for an insomniac!

But the best rains are those that come in the fall, when the leaves are vibrant in their golds and reds. The trees seem to glow against the grey sky, and bring a bit of cheer to the picture.

This morning I had the pleasure of driving home in a fall rain. It was nice to be able to focus on the beauty around me rather than just zoning out till I got home. I am very lucky that I get to drive home on quiet country roads. It is a very pretty drive, and soothes me after the busy mornings at work. It is impossible to worry about the day to day struggles of life when you are surrounded by such beauty. It is even more precious because I know that soon the leaves will fall, and my drive home will be bare and drab until the snows come.

One of these days I will have to take my camera and see if I can capture the sights to share....
