And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair. ~ Kahlil Gibran

Busy Day

Today, Dad and I went out to the local nursery and got our tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, cauliflower, and kohlrabi (yum). I was kicking myself the whole time because I never did get my seeds started indoors. I hope to get it done next year (isn't that what all gardeners say?) when we will hopefully be in our own home.

Anyway, we got our goodies planted. I have also planted peas and some turnips. I know it is a little early for the tomatoes and the peppers, but with my raised beds and a little care I think they will be alright.

We also got the fencing up, since our bunny population is rising in the area again. Big Sprout is very upset, as the fuzzy little rodents have been eating her flowers again this year. I didn't want to take a chance that they would be munching on human food as well.

It started to rain while we were working in the garden, and Little Sprout got quite upset. She ended up cold and very hungry, so we went out to eat. She ate like a little farm hand, and then decided that Dad and I had to be done so that she could go home and go to bed.

So we did.

I am so happy about the garden being mostly in. I have to finish off the planting, of course, but having lots of beautiful seedlings spaced out so carefully in each little weed-free space just makes my heart smile. It sounds a little hokey, but nothing makes me feel better deep down inside than playing in the dirt and seeing things grow.

Wow, you've got a head start on me! Every time I want to get out and plant, it's either too cold or too wet. I still have potatoes and peas to get in. It will happen, of course, I'm just getting anxious.

Hi Barefoot,

I planted tomato, bean and other seeds which were saved from sources that came from the cold areas of the former USSR.

Almost all the seeds took inside and were the growth was good so I put them out yesterday to harden off, only to fing a Song Thrush tucking in to the new shoots later.

There are only a few left so, like you, it's off to the local nursery.

Congrats on getting started.
I expect to harvest yellow squash by the end of the week, the butternuts are blooming and the tomatoes and bell peppers are loaded with small green fruit.

It is definitely gardening season in Texas
