Working for Angel

In a couple of weeks I will start my third job. I will be working for my friend, Angel, taking care of her grandmother during the day. I am really excited!

Angel is such a dear friend. She is the first person who really showed me that you can be one of the "beautiful people" and still be kind and generous and fun.

I can work as many days as I want, and it will be during the middle of the day while Big Sprout is at school. I can take Little Sprout with me, as Angel's Grandma doesn't need too much care, and it will bring in some much needed extra cash.

Mr. Barefoot expressed some concern about me taking on yet another job, but I don't see much in the way of options. There are only two ways of making extra money. The first is to spend less (which I am doing) and the second is to work more. I figure if I do both we will be in good shape in just a little while. Mr. Barefoot isn't about to get another job, so it is up to me.

I guess.

Still, it will be great working for Angel. We have fallen out of touch since her marriage, and it will be so nice to see her regularly. I know she will be a fun boss to have, and the job will be easy enough to do.

Well, 3 jobs sounds like uhm, fun (yeah that's it!) to me, but please please take care of yourself, my friend. I expect this to take no time at all away from your computer!

Uh, you completely missed option number three: Being happy with less.

Times are so tough and hard right now. By doing what people did during the first great depression, which is learning how to enjoy everyday things as if they were the most precious of treasures, they survived without feeling as if they had to work twenty jobs to have the lifestyle of the rich and famous.

Buddha said, "You suffer because of your desires."

He never said suffering was a result of not having enough money, possessions or luxury items.

That sounds like a good arrangement, but remember to make time to take care of yourself, girl!

Pardon me if this is none of my business, but it sounds like maybe this making extra money thing is a little unevenly distributed between you and the Mr.? It does sound familiar, at least the spending less part of it.

Kati-
I think it will be cool...

It's not all that bad, you kind of get used to it. Maybe being this busy will encourage me to use my time better!

Dirk-
I totally agree with you. However, we have decided to house hunt, and we have nowhere near what I would like to have in savings for this endeavor. I am all for being happy with less (you should see how spare my life really is), but I am also all for not getting yourself into a financial fix.

I figure if I can work all three jobs long enough to get us in to a house and get an emergency fund set up, then I can cut back until either I get to work only part time or I can quit all together.

Deb-
In my more uncharitable moments I agree with you totally about the money issue being very one-sided.

On the other hand, I am the one who is desperate to pay off any mortgage we get as quickly as possible. I am the one who so strongly feels that a large down and lower monthly payments is the way to go. I am the one who is concerned about roofs, furnace care, and general upkeep.

Mr Barefoot is the type to believe that things will work out in the end. I am the type who worries and prepares for the worst (hoping to be pleasantly surprised).

I figure if I am the one who is so concerned about all these things, I should be the one doing the work to make myself comfortable.

I am not saying it is fair or right, but I just can't spend my life waiting for my hubby to do things that are against his nature. I would be a nervous wreck and he would never get around to it. At least this way I am in control...kind of...

Hey Barefoot,
You got me a little worried now. Please don't spread yourself too thin, with so many people depending on you. You still need some "Me Time" and with gardening season fast approaching, I worry that you won't be able to manage everything. I know you're A LOT YOUNGER than I am, but I know I would be overwhelmed with everything that you manage to achieve in 24 hours. Take care of yourself
