Happy Birthday, Big Sprout!

Big Sprout turned 9 today at 10:15am.

We also had our first discussion about boys today. She has a crush, and she told me that she is not going to get serious with him because she knows that they will break up before she is old enough to get married.

My poor heart. It is so hard to have my baby-girl grow up. I loved it when she got to the age that she could entertain herself yet was young enough to still believe that I was the most fabulous, wonderful person in the world.

Now she is discovering boys, and soon will start thinking that I am "so uncool". If the next few years go by as fast as the last few have, I will only have time to blink before she is driving and dating.

I am proud of my girl. She is strong-willed and independent, yet never forgets to be kind and generous. She is beautiful, but not vain. She is always at the top of her class, and loves to learn. She has a fabulous memory for all the things she has learned, and loves to share them. She enjoys being outside, and is a fabulous swimmer.

When she was first born, I had all these ideas on how I would parent her to produce a child that is all these things. Now I know that she did these things all by herself. I feel strange when people compliment me on her, because I know that she has become all that she is with little help from me. She is just a good kid through and through.

I am so lucky.

Happy Birthday to your Big Sprout! What a lovely girl.
And you're right, time does fly and they grow so fast. My daughter turned 15 on Monday.

You are so right about them turning out the way they are by themselves! I feel the same way when people compliment my children. I don't feel as if I had too much to with how they turned out (except that I didn't kill them off when they were younger!)

If you are lucky, and I was/am, your daughters won't think you are uncool when they get older, but will cherish your input and want to share their lives with you!

Happy B-day to Big Sprout and her family!!

Happy Birthday Big Sprout!

And, you're right. All of the wonderful qualities my own kids have, they must have picked up themselves. I could never have taught them that well.

Happy Birthday to Big Sprout!! Such a beautiful girl with that lovely red hair!!

My mom always says that children are a reflection of their parents. So while you may feel like you didn't turn her into the way she is, you still had a hand in it. By the choices you've made in your discipline or the way you talk and share things with her.

Having 3 girls of my own, I worry about their futures, but I also try to enjoy the now. Enjoy the now Barefoot!! xoxo

Thank you all for the birthday wishes for Sprout. I will pass them on and surely make her day.

Lynne-blogger seems to have eaten my comment on your blog wishing your DD a happy birthday, so let me say it again here. Happy Birthday!

Lisa-
I so hope mine grow up to be like almost grown and not quite grown.

Jenny-
Thank you for the reminder. You are such an inspiration to me!

Happy (Belated) Birthday to Big Sprout!!! Dang... Double digits & starting to show an interest in boys..... Well, at least it sounds like she's got her head on straight when thinking about boys. I hope the most rebellion you ever see out of her amounts to obnoxiously loud music & maybe an extra set of ear-piercings. *grin*

Oh, shoot. I thought I saw 10, not nine. Ok, so no double digits yet! Sorry. *grin*
