The Hair, Part II

Yup, another hair post, cuz I got nuthin'.

Part your hair and brush smooth. I do a side part because it is more flattering to my face.

Take a small section of hair from the front and twist it clockwise in a back and up direction. Take the next small section of hair and repeat, pulling the second section up and over the first. Continue until you reach the back of your head, fasten (just jaw-clip it to the rest of your hair), then do the other side.

Pull all your hair into a ponytail. Fasten with a hair elastic.

Separate your hair into two approximately even sections ABOVE the binder, and flip the ponytail through. This makes a nice rolled look.

Braid the ponytail into as many braids as you would like. I usually do three, but I have done it with as few as one and as many as six. I suppose you could do as many as you wanted or had time for. Fasten each braid.

At this point, I usually bind all the braids together, but this step is not necessary. I just do it because it is easier for me to keep them even if they are all attached to one another.

Lift the bottoms (finished ends) of all the braids and tuck them into the "pocket" made by your flipped ponytail. Secure with bobby pins.

You can keep all the braids touching side by side, or separate them as I have done here. It is also nice to put a decorative barrette just above where you tucked the ends of your braids in. Sometimes it looks a little messy there, and a nice barrette or hair ornament covers it and provides extra security.

* Sorry the pics are a little dark. The lighting at my work isn't the greatest.

**Thanks to "The Sarge" for taking the pictures!

***Just a note. I very rarely ever put gel, hairspray, or anything else in my hair. I do often spray in a leave in conditioner or keratin spray, but this is more to keep my hair healthy than to keep it in place. Usually, hair will stay put in any of these styles without the help of any products. If I am concerned about my hair staying, I do it up when it is slightly damp. It stays put better that way.

Oooooh!!! How very pretty that looks!!!! Thanks for sharing more tutorials on pretty hair styles for those of us with longer hair.

One thing I've fallen in love with is pretty hair pins & sticks. I bought a few sparkly ones (rhine-stones & fake pearls) for pinning my hair into buns, but they'd look fabulous slipped into a fancy braided look like this. (Which, really, looks deceptively simple once you break it down so nicely.)

Hiya, Kati

That is what I like about these victorian hairstyles. They come from a time when women did their own hair much of the time, so they are easier to do by yourself. It's amazing how easy this style and the last one are once you have done them a time or two to get used to it! This one I can usually knock out in less than 10 minutes.

I agree with you about the hair sticks and pins. There is nothing quite so nice as putting a bit of hair jewelry in to make a girl feel fabulous.

Oh, I so miss my long hair (I stupidly had it cut off in early Oct.) In my youth I used to do all sorts of funky braiding and I got comments on it. I never did this particular style, but it is lovely. Your hair is gorgeous.
