Best Gift for a Geek
Yup, I am a Trixie Belden fan. I started reading the books when I was just a kid, and my Mom (bless her) gave me her collection from when she was young.
For those of you not "in the know", Trixie Belden books are similar to the Nancy Drew books in that they are mysteries solved by a young woman. Trixie lives in a farmhouse in NY, and she and her friends bop around NY and the country finding and solving mysteries.
Good, wholesome fun and a good read all in one.
Anywhoo...I have been collecting them ever since. Not in a serious way, I don't go to collector's auctions and spend lots of money or anything. I just haunt garage sales and thrift stores, as well as second hand book stores, looking for copies of the ones I don't have. The problem is that EVERYONE has volumes 1 through about 20, but after that it gets harder and harder to find them.
DH found me a copy of volume 37, the Pet Show Mystery, in MINT CONDITION!!!!! It is absolutely perfect. I know what he spent on it, and most of you would gasp in horror that a paperback book for young adults could cost so much. Even I gasped a little.
But I love it. I am so excited. Since it is in such pristine condition I am a little afraid to read it (what if I wreck it?!) but I firmly believe books are meant to be read, not left on a shelf to get dusty. So I will read it. Very carefully. And then it will go back in it's protective cover and be placed on my bookshelves in a place of extreme honor.
I am so happy!

LOVED Trixie Belden as a young girlie! I wish I had kept my collection (I received a few new ones every Xmas). I recently found a couple at a local thrift store.
