We Gotta Teach Big Sprout About Humility

I went to pick Big Sprout up from her church group tonight. On the way home we were talking about how her best friend was arguing with her Dad today. Big Sprout asked if she had ever really argued with us like that. I admitted that she really doesn't argue much, she shows her anger in other ways. She asked if she yelled at me a lot when she was younger the way Little Sprout does, and I told her that I spoiled her when she was little. Since it was just her and I, she pretty much got to do whatever she wanted as long as I was able to do what I needed to get done.

Then she told me:

"Mom, you did everything they tell parents not to do and I ended up perfect!"

I laughed myself to tears.

First off, I haven't done EVERYTHING that the experts tell parents not to do. Some of it, maybe, but definitely not all of it.

Second, while she is pretty darn marvelous I hesitate to use the word "perfect" regarding either of my Sprouts.

Oh, goodness....what am I gonna do?!

ROFL That's cute!!! While marvelous is pretty true, I get nervous at the thought of regarding oneself as perfect. There is ALWAYS room for improvement, even if it's superficial ways such as learning to play an instrument or improving one's artistic or athletic abilities. *grin* Hope you can keep her feet on the ground, while encouraging a good, strong self-esteeme.
