And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair. ~ Kahlil Gibran

Giggles

I was looking at my Statcounter doohickey, and noticed that someone found my blog while searching "how to grow lettuce in MN in raised beds". Now, sir or madame, if you are reading this please do not be offended, but I giggled when I read it.

I think of myself as quite the bumbling gardener. I plan a lot, but when it comes right down to it I follow the school of thought that says "plant and it will grow". And if it doesn't, try again.

I know I talk a good game, and I spend quite a bit of time planning my gardens. The reality is, though, that I think most of my success comes from good soil (easy to get if you have a compost pile) and the fact that I really enjoy weeding and finding goodies in my garden. That is all there is to it.

To be perfectly frank, I don't really believe in "high maintenance" gardening. My Honorary Uncle always said that you can keep your garden neat and productive with 15 minutes of time and energy a day. I really believe this to be true. I also figure that it is best to work with what grows well in your area.

Oh, I am not above putting out row covers or working with a cold frame. My reasons for that are selfish, though. I just like to putter, and that is one way to do it.

In all honesty, I am amazed every year at how much produce I get from such inexpert gardening.

Have you all lost your respect for me now?

Of course, if any of you have read this blog from the beginning you may remember this post where I didn't even know what the result of an attack of cutworms looked like. And that was only a couple of years ago. Really, gardening is that easy. Look at how much I have learned in just the last couple of years. If I can do it, anyone can! Hehe

In other news, I have begun reading Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. I had expected that, given the era in which it was written, I would have trouble "getting into" it due to the language. To my happy surprise, it is a wonderfully engaging book! I recommend it to one and all...

I am off to read a few more chapters before bed. Have a good one, all!

I could have written this post, except for the references to MN. I am a novice gardener too. I just like to grow food, and will try and try again to do it right!

Oh, and Jane Austen books are fun!!
