And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair. ~ Kahlil Gibran

What a Way to Wake Up

I was woken by Big Sprout racing into the bedroom and yelling about how I needed to get up. As I stumbled out of the bedroom (wondering why she needed me to get up anyway), I remembered that we were totally out of soda. A quick glance at the clock made it clear that there was no time for me to run up to the store before Big Sprout left for school.

I figured I could hold off the caffeine addiction for 15 minutes, get Big Sprout off to school, then run up for my soda fix. Yeah, I could do that. Sure.

Big Sprout then reminded me that I needed to call her teacher right away this morning. And then she wanted to know where I put her snowpants. I don't wear them, so I hadn't put them anywhere. A quick call to Mr. Barefoot confirmed that he didn't put them anywhere, either.

I finally pushed Big Sprout out the door, praying that she wouldn't wake Little Sprout, and followed her out to start the van.

Ummm, yeah. The garage was frozen shut.

So imagine me in my pajamas, no socks in my sneakers, my hair looking as if I had stuck it in a blender along with my morning ugly shake, and yanking on my garage door in the early morning mist.

And kicking the garage.

And kicking it harder when I realised that the stroller was locked in the garage with my van, negating my ability to walk Little Sprout over to the store to get my caffeine fix.

I called Mr. Barefoot in hopes of locating the Ice Melt, only to discover that there was nowhere near enough left in the bag to melt the 2 inches of ice that stubbornly held my garage door down.

So what was a girl to do? I called my Daddy. Not only did he bring me soda (oh, I love my Daddy), but he got my garage open and took Little Sprout and myself out for breakfast to soothe feathers ruffled by such a rough morning.

It's good to be loved.

That is an awful way to start the day!

I'm glad your day got better and your Dad came to the rescue.

Let me tell you that "stuck it in a blender along with my morning ugly shake" just about made me pee my pants.

Yay! for Daddies to the rescue :). I always resist the urge to call my husband to ask if he knows where such-and-such is. If I don't know where it is, he's not gonna, but still, it is good to know that there is someone I can call when the thin threads that hold my life together start to unravel :).

Just to commiserate.... My mom called yesterday morning & woke up DD at 8:30. Asked why DD was still home, wasn't it a school day??? DD said that yes, but evidently she'd overslept, then she left her room & found that I, too, too had overslept. Her bus comes at 8:50, it was 8:34 when DD (and Mom) pulled me out of bed. CRAP! DD scarfed a couple of slices of toast, threw on some clothes, and was at the bus-stop about 3 minutes before the bus pulled up. *grin* That was close.

So, see.... You're NOT the only one! It happens here too! Hope yesterday & today have gone better!
