It's Just Not My Day

Remember how I was so excited to have three days off?

Yeah. This is the last one, and so far they have sucked. Tuesday I had the root canal, which wasn't bad. I got some much needed antibiotics and painkillers, and even got to take an hour nap before Sarge brought Little Sprout home and Big Sprout came home from school.

So maybe Tuesday didn't suck, but sitting through a root canal is not as fun as lying in bed with my garden porn and napping whenever I want.

Yesterday I felt like I still hadn't gotten all of the laughing gas out of my system from the root canal. It was so strange, walking around all day and not really feeling like I was there. I even ended up calling Mr. Barefoot and asking for help getting Big Sprout to AWANA club because I felt so off. I did get to lay in bed for a while, which was nice. I fell asleep around 11pm, but woke up at 1am with my tooth and jaw just hurting. It wasn't the writhe in pain kind of thing, it just ached badly enough that I couldn't sleep.

I ended up getting up and staying awake until 4am. I took vicodin, I took ibuprofen, neither really did much.

Little Sprout had me up at 7 this morning, and I was hoping to nap while she did later in the day. Too bad she didn't take a nap today.

The dentist office called to see how my tooth was doing, so I told them that I was sore and that this hadn't happened the last time. The gal said she would consult the Dr. and give me a call back. That was almost 5 hours ago. I don't think she will be calling.

I am not worried about it. I did some research online, and it looks like feeling discomfort for the first few days to a week is considered normal after a root canal. If I still hurt really bad and run out of pain pills, I will call and make an appt to get it checked out. Until then I will remain happily stoned and mostly pain-free.

I emailed Mr. Barefoot today, asking for ideas on how to keep Little Sprout from driving me insane with her screaming. I hopped over to another site to look around while I was waiting for him to respond, and when I tried to go back the entire site was gone. It wasn't that I couldn't access my email account, it was that I couldn't access the site. I use hotmail, by the way.

I don't know if the problem is my 'puter (it has been running really slow lately) or if the site just went haywire. I guess all I can do is keep trying and hope for the best. It is a little frustrating to not be able to get Mr. Barefoot's reply, though. I don't like to call him at work, because I feel like I am intruding. At least if I email him I know he can wait until he has time to read and reply.

Oh, well.

Supper tonight is going to be Italian Chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans. One of my "comfort meals". The chicken is just marinated in Italian salad dressing, then I cook it up. My mom broils it(broiling is when you use the oven with the top heat and that special drippy pan thingy, right?), but I usually throw it in my giant frying pan and just cook it that way. It is SOOOOO YUMMY!

I figure that since my tooth hurts when I chew, it will be nice to have some softer foods and foods that really make me feel good tonight. Lucky for me, the rest of the family likes my comfort foods, too, so I don't have to feel guilty about being selfish with the meal plan. :)

I recommend a hot fudge sundae for dinner! Well, that's what I'm having (for dessert!) I assure you, it is much better for you and your tooth than even chicken!

Plus, it's good if you have the munchies!

(((((HUGS))))) I hope your dinner was yummy, and you were able to chew without your tooth hurting. Our "comfort meal" tonight is homemade chili & rhubarb/berry cobbler. (Frozen rhubarb & berries, tossed with a bit of sugar, and 4 frozen pillzberry biscuits.) I'm needing the summer-fruit fix to take my mind off the cold.

Your chicken dish sounds yummy, and simple! (Yes, broiling is using the top heater element and a drippy-pan-thing.) I bet it turns out even more tender from pan-frying, as you do, than when broiled as your mom does. (Not that there's anything wrong with broiling, but panfrying would seem to retain more moisture in the meat.)

Anyway, also hope you get a good night's sleep tonight!

Lisa-
Mr. Barefoot agrees with you that hot fudge needs to become a staple around here, but he is not willing to run to the store for me. *pout*

Kati-
Thanks for the confirmation on the broiling thing. I may know what the different things in my kitchen DO, but I never seem to remember what they are CALLED. *smile*

The Italian Chicken is super yummy, and I fried it with the lid on and just a little dressing and water mixed in the bottom of the pan. I guess that works out to more of a steamed chicken, huh? All I know is that it makes the chicken super fall-apart tender, which is what I really wanted last night. The broiling seems to carmalize the dressing on the outside of the chicken, which is really nice, but too often I end up burning it that way.

The Italian dressing thing works on pork really well, too, in case you are interested in trying it. I love it with pork chops (yummy-yum-yum!).
